Educating Our Youth In Leadership Skills

The Air Force Association (AFA) was founded in 1948 for the purpose of supporting the Air Force family and later expanded to be an advocate for educating the public in aerospace needs and to be an advocate for Air Force defense needs. The AFA family expanded rapidly from its beginnings and up to the 1980’s which then began to decline because the original membership was passing on in life and there were not enough new members joining to take their place. As a result the AFA membership programs have come into some jeopardy. Sense an active membership is essential to its survival the AFA must now look to new methods of support. This means we must “Think Outside the Box” to find and implement new ideas that will attract the public at large and will support the overall concepts of our original founders. As a result of “Thinking Outside the Box” a notable concept as been proposed and is now in the process of being implemented at the Cape Fear Chapter 366 located in Wilmington, NC. The proposal is noted in the title of this memo, “Educating Our Youth in Leadership Skills”.

The youth of America are our future leaders. They should be given the opportunity to become the very best leaders we, as a nation, can produce. Depending on our public schools to manage that process has come into some question and therefore there is some concern for our future way of life. Because of this concern having a program that will focus on training our youth to be future leaders is a worthwhile endeavor.

The proposed program of educating our youth in leadership skills will have AFA members manage the process of mentoring to our youth using an already well developed “Leadership Training” course sponsored by the Civil Air Patrol (CAP).

If you are presently an AFA member please contacts us for additional information and instructions on how to become involved. If you are not an AFA member please contact us to answer any questions concerning the program and to join AFA to help us in our pursuit to educate our youth in leadership skills.
